One of the most common excuses we hear from parents about why kids are stuck inside during the winter months is that it’s too cold. It’s never too cold to enjoy the outdoors—just poor clothing choices. In most cases, staying warm when the mercury drops is an issue of layering. ActiveKidsClub created this short video to demonstrate how to stay warm.

Inner Layer:

Shirts, pants, and socks made from Merino wool, synthetic, or blends of both—no cotton.

Middle Layer:

A fleece jacket is a good choice here. Select fabrics that breathe.

Outer Layer:

Here, you’re looking for wind and water resistance.

Add a hard shell coat, snow pants, gloves, and a hat, particularly one that will cover the ears. And, of course, a pair of boots. If there’s snow on the ground, you’ll probably want boots that are waterproof.
